What Achatina is and its anatomy

8. října 2018 v 10:30 | Vanessa |  About snails
Achatina/Archachatina is giant land snail.
I am sure, that everybody met at least once a snail, in a garden or somewhere in forest.
Well, that is what is this page about. About snails, but big ones - Exotic land snails.
Lissachatina reticulata.

Empire: Animals (Animalia)
Tribe: Mollucs (Mollusca)
Class: Gastropods (Gastropoda)
Order: Pulmonary (Pulmonata)
Family: Achatinidae

In Family Achatinidae you can find species of Achatina, Lissachatina and Archachatina. The family contains about 200 species and subspecies.

The diference between (Liss)Achatina and Archachatina is not that big, we can recognize them by shell. Archachatina has squatter shell and less sharped apex (top of the shell).

Snails have body divided to head, foot and pouch bag.
In pouch bag we can fing all organs.
Pouch bag is covered by cloak, the surface of cloak excludes calcium compounds, which create shell.

The foot is controlled by coil muscle, thanks to this muscle snail can hole up in the shell or stick out the body. Ankles are controlled by excavations of coil muscle.

Snail's skin contains glands producing slime, thanks to slime snail can move forward. In front of the foot has snail big gland producing slime, which helps him lot to move.

Slime is made of water, salt, bactericidal agents and mucin. Mucin is enzime, which makes slime sliding. Our spittles contain mucin too.
Slime protects body from loosing water, sharp objects, cleans cloak clavity and snails use it to protect their eggs from drying.
Snail needs water to make slime, so you should give him little plate with water and bedew the box every day. Snail absorbs the water by whole body and by mouth.

Achatina is pulmonary plum, it means, that it has lungs. Lungs are made by lung cavity and cushy inner wall, thanks to this wall lungs are bigger.

Snails don't have a blood. They have hemolymf, which contains dissolved blood dye hemocyanin, which connects to oxygen in lungs and goes to hearth and from hearth to whole body.

Recieving and digestive system starts with mouth covered by lips. In the oral cavity is radula, which is made of hunderts of little odontocyts and is made to scrap the food. The odontocytes keep growing new and new.
The food goes thanks to cloves to stomach. In the front bowel food stirs with enzymes and cleaves to easily digestible folders. Snails can cleave even food hard to cleave - celulose etc. That is somenthing people can't do.
